As we remember Memorial Day
Many families, including ours, have parents, grandparents and many further back in history, who gave their lives fighting for freedom from oppression. They courageously fought in conditions we can barely imagine, and those who survived lefts parts of their bests elves so we could be here.
We barely know that kind of heroism. That kind of love is rarely displayed today.
We live mostly petty lives full of self.
We are uncomfortable with sadness, delayed gratification
or even an answer from God that we choose not to like.
We stay within our own boundaries and our own opinions.
The generations that went before deserve a better legacy than we sometimes give them.
Can you imagine your greatgrandparent sitting and having a conversation with you right now?
I think they would likely say, "What's all that fuss about?"
Yes, perspective is something we have only from afar.
By the time we get there, everything has changed.
But us. We stubbornly fuss again.
Fussing only helps babies get picked up. The only thing to help us when we fret is to remember
what He says in Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God
or cease striving.
I really should set out the all-things-patriotic, but I'm waiting for the rain to end. The flags and bunting banner will go up, and the empty Cheerwine pop bottle will hold little flags.
There will be red sugar for my coffee and R,W, and Blue paper napkins under the forks.
This rhubarb pie will be designated as the first of the season, and will be replicated. There will be
plenty for both supper, as well as with our morning breakfast, if we so choose.
Lastly, I will continue to set aside time to tidy-up RedBarn, but some embroidery-love has been challenging my knitting lately...oh, it'll speak to me again.
Also thinking of accumulating a few things for a little window-shelf.
Some 'For Sale' items.
Eggs, needlework, honey?
When things settle down a tad.....

So well said. Oh how I would love to sit with my grandparents, and great grandparents. To hear the stories of old. Yes, they were filled with love, kindness for all. So much knowledge gone.
ReplyDeleteLove your RWB plans.
