Favorite cookbook, #2, and what Season is It?
I must say, my mother was a prolific recipe recorder. She started during her college days, and continued almost 60 years. I am blessed to have her original filebox of cards, many in her and her friends handwriting. Last week I came across the Strawberry or Pear Salad. (Good to add some cooked cold asparagus, too. ) The card calls for springmix greens, which is something that I thought was a newer item. Evidently she had it decades before me?!
NO CLUE, what she used for spinach dressing, but
I penciled in my dressing version on the card bottom, and it was a great addition.
Enjoy.
The last couple of weeks here have been all over the place in the weather department. I can use 3 different apps, and they don't always help me plan. I was looking at my clothes pin bag, and yes, the whirly thingie was out, and the pins were mildewed? I soaked them in a bleach solution, rinsed them, and by the next day it was snowing...again.The plastic clothespins are 0ver 20 years old. The ones with writing are from a game at my brothers wedding in 1991. I was 'gifted' them after a game, probably because I might have had a clothes yard. Remember when the fixed wooden posts and lines were called that?
At least the snow on the grass LOOKED like little flowers??Switched up a tad, set the knitting aside, and have been enjoying some downtime with simple embroidery. You know, the little iron-on packages of transfer designs from Walmart? I know, what's the point? Well, with all the anxiety that we could assimilate from the last years news, I've found it oh-so-better for me to talk to Jesus, as my daughter would do, and deal with life. And it's always better to have something in your hands so you don't jump in the deep end with your emotions, or your mouth.
Just saying.....
so the 1st item is a dishcloth. No, I didn't need to, but then, how much web-searching for the truth can one do? Oh, I have the Truth. His name is Jesus.....These little guys just make me smile.....
And yes, the spring birds found us....
TODAY were 1st sightings of a hummer and an oriole...sigh...lovely, and both within 15 min. of each other. Maybe they flew north together, the hummer hitching a ride on an orange wing,
when Hummy Bird got a little weary??
Yesterday a little wren sang his heart out for 6-7 hours in the rain...a persistent little suiter.
By nightfall, he won her heart, and the nest building began. Now comes the singing at sunrise, that is if the rain ever stops....

Oh yes, you are so blessed to have these wonderful recipes in your mom's own hand.
