Hurray for August?!
Yes, THANKFUL, always, but its crunch time at Redbarn. Canning beans, making pickles, cooking up batches of tomatoes for sauce, soup, and 'whatever'...phew! you get it if you plant gardens. Even those who don't grow their own, some buy produce and 'put up' a few things. Ever so nice to have some things 'tucked away' for the cooler months. Our fruit endeavors are growing, but there is not a lot for now. Think like many of you, we do the best with what we have, and what others pass along to us.
Drying some flowers and herbs. The 2nd hand dehydrator konked-out, so finished things
in the oven, 170*. It was fine.
A little knitting, when I sit a bit... Old patterns, leftover yarns. Top: a knitting bag for me.
Bottom: a fashion doll type coat, and hat for a 'sweet one '.
This is my favorite spot to sit and knit, and read, and pray too.
do you wipe out and save cereal box type liners? Awesome, strong freezer bags. Seal them with masking tape, and reusable even then!
Not time to post a recipe today....but this is what happened when Chickie helped me recently...
Perhaps another time I can share about Bea and Marietta, the little wooden girls who 'live' in the pantry. The grandchildren love them, and often rearrange 'their home ' space. I actually had to put Bea and Marietta in a little container with their 'things' for a few weeks. No, not a time-out, just a pantry re-organization....poor sweeties.. They'll be back...She lives in the Hoosier. top left cupboard door, in the blue bin. She likes to dangle her skinny little legs over the edge, and that day I guess she just wanted a closer look at my cookie recipe. Yup, head-over-teakettles, down into the flour mixture. After refusing a bath, she was dusted off, and was heard contently humming to herself, while the said cookies were baking... ( do chickens even hum??? maybe it was a meek little 'cluck, cluck, cluck' I heard. I only gave her a small bite when the cookies were done...she was still quite shaken up...poor wee Chickie..)
time to run...praying for our country, trusting our Savior...D.
