Thankful...for snow in spring, too
Just days after Resurrection Sunday, and we have snow. Truth is, it happens every year,
but it still surprises me. It's just that crazy season of mixed-up stuff. I want cotton dresses. I reach for the wool turtlenecks instead. I want sandles. I slip into boots for the yard soggy ground.
The garden hot box (the storm window resting on a little ground frame) is happily producing
lovely lettuce, red and green.
No problem, walk down past the redbarn and pick some.
Challenge is the honey bees, which the Gardener thought had turned to 'punks', are actually a stellar group..prolific. The hive was split and it will take a while for them to settle down.
So the lettuce procurement was a challenge. But I won.
The crazy season also has deer still roaming during the evening, and eating the one lovely bloom on my Pipsqueak plant. With all the tulips around? Ugh.
A little cake. Guess something citrus like helps when seasons are transitional. And yes, it's 70* today, down to 30 in a few more days. (We don't plant here for another 4 weeks, but you've figured that out?!)
Oh, this is Great Aunt Emily's Orange Raisin Cake, and I've no clue where the recipe came from. Probably a random vintage cookbook in my cupboard. I cut the recipe in 1/2, and baked it in a 6" pan.
That way, it's just enough for a cold day, but not too much hanging around
when the weather changes.
We're always in transition, as I mentioned before. Nothing stays the same. I'm glad for that.
It's what we do with the changes, that can trip you up. We can rarely take yesterday's solutions for today's problems. Our world spins and spins...
Yes, we can figure things out, but rarely and not wisely, without going to the Source of all wisdom.
So, Resurrection Day was last week, but if we don't live in the reality of the what
Jesus did to deal with sin issue, nothing will work.
Thankful in the spring, yes. Luke 17:11-21 tells us about the 10 lepers who came to Jesus
and asked for mercy.
Christ did good, and healed them ....even for those who were unthankful. They were 'healed and cleaned'.
But the one who came back to thank Him, that was something else! His faith made 'him well'. That means he was made whole. His spirit was saved too, not just his body.
Keep thankful, D.
Yes, So thankful. He is our awesome God!
ReplyDeleteRasin orange cake. Sounds so yummy.
Pipsqueak plant? Never heard of it. Sounds unique.
Green and purple lettuce. Yummy. I have 2 pots growing on my patio. We have had quite a few salads. (And I didnt have to fight the bees. 😆)
So enjoy your writing.
Goodness, that is Pigsqueak, I misspoke, but anyway, it's a fun plant, when the deer don't eat the blooms! Spring advancing into warmer weather, and we're thankful here.
